Sheffield's identity has shifted significantly over the decades, from the steel and cutlery industries that defined it for generations to a modern economy built around advanced manufacturing, two major universities, a large NHS trust, and a growing digital and creative sector. What hasn't changed is the volume of paperwork that organisations across the city generate and accumulate. Microform provides document scanning services for Sheffield businesses and institutions that want to manage their records more effectively, digitising paper archives so they're searchable, securely accessible, and managed in line with the compliance requirements of their sector. Our Wakefield headquarters is within easy reach of Sheffield, and our team brings 70 years of experience working with South and West Yorkshire organisations to every project.
Who We Help in Sheffield
Sheffield's advanced manufacturing and engineering businesses, many of them working in aerospace, automotive, and specialist materials, hold extensive technical archives: drawings, process records, quality documentation, and supplier files that take up significant space and are difficult to manage in paper form. We help these businesses digitise and organise that material, making it accessible and protecting it from further deterioration. Local hospitals, NHS Trusts and care facilities work with us to digitise clinical and administrative records securely. Universities and higher education establishments, are significant generators of research archives, student records, and historical collections. Local councils and other public bodies in the city also form part of our client base, alongside legal firms, accountancy practices, and professional services businesses throughout the city centre and suburbs.
We're Local to Sheffield
Sheffield is well within reach of our Wakefield headquarters, making us a genuinely local option for businesses in the city rather than a distant provider with no connection to the area. We understand South Yorkshire's industrial and commercial character, and we've been working with organisations across the region for over six decades. Collections from Sheffield are straightforward to arrange, and you'll have a consistent point of contact throughout your project.

/ Frequently asked questions
Can you handle technical drawings and engineering documentation for Sheffield's manufacturing sector?
Yes. Large format scanning is one of our core specialisms. We work regularly with advanced manufacturing and engineering businesses, scanning A0 through A3 drawings, schematics, and technical specifications, including older documents that may be fragile or stored in poor condition.
Do you cover Rotherham, Chesterfield, and the wider Sheffield city region?
Yes. Our collection service covers Sheffield and the surrounding South Yorkshire area. If you have multiple sites or documents spread across the region, we can arrange collections accordingly.
Can you use Optical Character Recognition during my document scans?
Yes. Any typed documents we scan can undergo Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Of course, if a document is presented in poor condition, this may hamper the quality of the scan. We do, however, supply experienced proofreaders to amend mistakes as part of an extra service.
Do you scan confidential material?
Yes. Up to 80% of the materials we scan at Microform are confidential. From invoice statements through to medical records, we ensure a fully secure and confidential service that puts the privacy of our clients at the centre of everything that we do. Confidentiality agreements can also be signed to ensure the tightest possible controls.
How are the digital files returned?
Files can be sent in a number of ways, whether digitally, using a cloud sharing platform, or hand-delivered, in a hard-drive or USB stick. Preferred methods are usually either: an encrypted HDD delivered securely to the customer, a digital download link, an SFTP transfer, or DVD/CD (for smaller jobs). We can integrate with your current workflows or provide cloud storage to facilitate the delivery of files.
